January is School Director Appreciation Month. So, I thought it would be a good time to thank our school board members for all they do, while also introducing our two newest directors!

According to PSBA, school directors volunteer, on average, 20 hours a month to help run the schools in our community. School directors are often tasked with some of the hardest decisions concerning budgets, curriculum and how to overall better the education of our students.

In December, we saw two of our long-standing board members step down from the board to spend more time with family – Craig Esbenshade, who served from 2011 to 2017 and Daryl Stoltzfus, who served from 2005 to 2017. Thank you both for your many years of service to CV!

Because of that, we also swore in two new members recently: Dana Mead, a former English professor at Elizabethtown College, and Luis D. Torres, the executive director of The Mix at Arbor Place. We are excited to see how Dr. Mead and Mr. Torres’ wealth of knowledge can be used to better the education of CV students!

The nine members of the Conestoga Valley School Board are:

  • Merle Esh, President
  • Todd D. Shertzer, Vice President
  • Idette B. Groff
  • Charles R. Maines
  • Dana G. Mead
  • Julia Reed
  • John R. Smucker
  • Michael G. Talley
  • Luis D. Torres

Though we have two new faces this year, a number of our board members have served more than two 4-year terms, with one having served since 1999! Please take the time this month to show your gratitude in some way for their time, effort and dedication to our students’ success and public education’s advancement.

Thank you again for all you do for CV!
